'Building Connections between Art and Port Credit'.
Port Credit Village Project (PCVP) and the Port Credit 175th Anniversary Committee invite the community to this exciting art-focused public gathering.  Three very experienced and talented professional artists, selected by a diverse local jury from a number of entries, will unveil their models for a sculpture inspired by Port Credit in its 175th year.  This public art piece is planned to be located in Port Credit.

The artists are David M. General, Philip H. Cote and the team of Ludzer Vandermolen, Vince Graham and Peter Sutherland (click on links to view artists' previous works).  Questions and comments will be sought from the attendees to assist in juried selection of the winning design.

The winning design by Philip H. Cote was announced on October 21, 2010.  Below is a simulation of how the sculpture would look at the location chosen by the artist, at J.C. Saddington Park.  Click for Maquette photos and a detailed look at the winning proposal (28p PDF).

The 2010 tour takes place in Port Credit in honour of the village's 175th Anniversary.  Children are most welcome – it is not frightening at all.  A walking heritage tour supplemented by in-character costumed actors portraying actual people from Port Credit’s past.  There may be a few spooky stories, but nothing graphic or overly scary!

NOTE:  Please call to confirm as space is limited and is starting to fill.  There is a cap of 35 people per tour, and four tours are planned, which means a total of 140 people can attend.  If there is a large walk-up crowd, one additional tour may be added – but again, the cap is 35 people per tour.

Also on the same night ... Port Credit 175th Pumpkin Patch
The first 175 children get to decorate a mini pumpkin and take it home.  This will be behind the Lighthouse (where the log cabin was).   Children are welcome to come dressed in their costumes.  A huge thank you to Lambert Chiropractic Health Centre for sponsoring the pumpkins.  The 'Pumpkin Patch' will open at 7:00 p.m.  Organized by Kelly Ralston and friends (who carved the PC175 pumpkins, shown above).  Click for PHOTO ALBUM (23p PDF).

A celebration of one hundred and seventy-five years of history at the mouth of the Credit River... the East Bank vs. the West Bank... the Mississauga Indians and the fairies.  Fires... storms... tragedies... loves lost... and heroes.  Commerce in the harbour, and in the lake beyond, and not all of it marine life.  Personalities, businesses — all a part of the legacy that is Port Credit.  In the midst of it all, a lonesome mariner.  Who is he?  A phantom of the past?  A spirit of the present?  Fog is rolling into the harbour; mist is rising on the shoreline.  Figures can be barely seen, a story of a town is about to be told.  A ghost story — bring someone with you and hold on tight!

Mississauga News (Nov. 9, 2010): Port Credit focus of play.  Excerpt: "The play explores the history of the Credit River and surrounding area. It highlights events that happened between 1830 and the 1960s and includes dance, music, comedy and ghost stories."
