Port Credit Anniversary Logo

The new 175th Anniversary logo is now popping up in print media and on this website.  Inspiration for this logo came from the historic Port Credit crest.  This crest was sculptured by Louis Temporale and dedicated on August 22, 1974 when Port Credit was amalgamated with the City of Mississauga.  The sculptured cenotaph (designed by Thomas Jordon Groves) resides in the foyer of the Port Credit Library.

Port Credit to celebrate 175th Anniversary

What is a 175th Anniversary called?  That was one of the first questions that was asked when the Anniversary Committee came together in Spring 2009.  And the news isn't good, at least for putting the word on a T-shirt (though we might try....).

According to Wikipedia the word is either:

Demisemiseptcentennial or quartoseptcentennial for 175 years.

Terquasquicentennial is a coined word for an anniversary of 175 years, but the elements of the word literally refer to an anniversary of 375 years, as follows: ter- (3) x quasqui- (1¼) x centennial (100 years)

Septaquintaquinquecentennial is also a coined word for an anniversary of 175 years, but the elements of the word literally refer to an anniversary of 35,000 years, as follows: septaquinta- (70) x quinque- (5) x centennial (100 years)

We think we'll stick to 175th Anniversary for now!
